Lilium longiflorum

In my front yard...

Easter lilies are native to the Ryukyu Islands of southern Japan, and the islands of Okinawa, Amani and Erabu. (I did not know that!)

Info taken from http://www.mda.state.mi.us/kids/countyfair/crops/lily/history.html

Look...A little bug doing his buggy work!
Apparently he didn't like having his picture taken! Click on photo for a better look :)

It stormed all night in central NC. I awoke at 5 am, and unable to go back to sleep, I started thinking about my lillies...and how cool it would be to take pics of them as dawn was breaking. So I did :)

Too much flash...but you see how many lillies there are!--->

This one Lilly...she was at the bottom of the class, but did that stop her from blooming? Nooooo!

She danced like a ballerina and her feet/petals barely touched the ground :)-->

For this lovely shot, I had to LAY down! I rested my head directly under the flowers (which are about 3 feet high...I am only 5 ft...so the view wasn't much different! LOL), and I got fairly wet, with all the water dropletts falling in my face! It was worth it!

My mother does a lot of gardening, but she goes more for the geraniums, the tuplips and the mums. She plants lilies every now and then. Yours are quite exquisite. I'm sure you give them lots of attention.

I like the way you use your digital camera to bring us to the sights around you. That's certainly a good way to do it.

what a coincidence...
i also took photos of my lillies today.

X~ thank you, really, for everything :)
Some of the bulbs have been moved twice...and they are the easiest plants in the world to grow (down here anyway). Every year I wait for the green to come up in December...and by April I have a good idea how many blooms there will be and I count them. They usually open on my special day, so they are very dear to me.
Glad you enjoyed them. They don't last long :)

Schaumi...I read all about the foaming moan...lol! Now I get it.
Did you post your flower pics? I'll have to pop over and see. I saw the stuffed anmial this morning! :) I need to go through my house and throw stuff out...ughhh. I dread it!
:)

Cora, Schaumi, do you two know each other outside of the cyberworld?

Mayden' s Voyage said...

No :)
I don't know Schaumi...when I said pop over, I meant "pop over" to her blog :) Just like I pop over to yours! Wish it was that simple to get around!

Actually--I would probably be a total nuisance. But if anyone could talk you to sleep it would probably be me! Blah, blah, blah... lol
No, X- I would read you a story, and it would be one I have written :)

cora,

I could post the flower pic. I was actually thinking of you when I took the pic and wondering if they were easter lillies.

I would love to read one of your stories one day.

x,

Schaumi,
I know mine are also called Trumpet lillys...and are displayed as "Easter Lillys" at the store, but I'm not sure if that is correct. It may be that this is just a Trumpet Lilly, and another kind (like yours) is the Easter lilly, but I don't know. I've googled it and I'm still not clear.

Funny thing is that I have other lillys growing too, beautiful red ones that are of some other variety (star-gazer?), but the deer ate every last bloom! Right out of my front yard! LOL! But, they must have known better than to touch my favorites! :)

Great pics, Cora. I have one question for you, what is this five o'clock in the morning that you speak of?

Mayden' s Voyage said...

Grunt,
There are a few moments in each day...just before the big hot yellow-orange orb rises into the sky, when all the world is dark, and cob-webby, and wet with dew.

The dogs are still sleeping, the rooster has yet to crow, and the birds are looking at hymnals to decide what they will sing all morning.

5 am is just about then :)

Sounds like a beautiful hour. I'll have to try it out sometime.

I always wish I knew the different types of flowers. And trees. Well, I know several trees. And most dog breeds.

Not sure where I was going with this. Oh, lovely pics. And I laid down to take a picture the other day, too. Coincidentally.

Bone...lying down to take a photo :)

Years ago...in the summer, late in the evening, when the driveway is still warm, but the air has cooled off a little...I love to lay on the driveway and look at the stars.

I haven't done it in a long time...guess I need to fix that one! Thank you for stopping by. The bathroom rules were funny! Not sure they will help me much, but I'll pass them on to my hubby and son! :)
