One student had this to say: (and this is a GUY student)
"Earlis Fayette, 18, said his girlfriend also was sent away by Gardner at the door.
"I find it's wrong, because you can't help what the girl has. You're born with that," he said. "I think it was discrimination toward a woman who has features."
(I do wonder IF his opinion will change in when it's his daughter going to the Prom-)
Oh Come on!!!
A DUDE is playing the "female discrimination" card at the age of 18???
Well, of course he is...he wants to get lucky later- right?
And that is, of course, what Prom night is all about-???
(I was cheeky even in high school....
hard to believe, I know :)
About dressing up like an adult, and going out with a nice young person to have a lovely dinner, and then dancing under Christmas lights strung up in a Gym to look like stars...and thinking, at some point during the evening-
"So this is what it's like to be a grown up."
With her boobs being the center of attention- and dinner, and dancing, and all the love notes prior to this eveing all being a warm up for...???
Oh, Hell- let the girls dress like sluts if they don't mind and Daddy bought the dress!
Honestly- if the girls and their parents don't have the good sense to encourage modesty, and moderation, and a sense of self-respect- why not let them fully reveal themselves to the rest of us who are trying to raise kids to a certain standard-
I mean really...
(Maybe the girls who were turned away could go to a bar or something?)
Let the dresses fall where they may (I meant dice)- and lets go ahead and get a glimpse of the future...
Jennifer will be pregnant by the time she's 17-
Juli will be taking pre-med or law classes.
Allison will be drunk on graduation day.
Michelle will be an intern in the White House. (she took a Lewinksy clutch purse)
The teaching staff in La just don't want to see the handwriting on the wall... Or maybe, just maybe...they are trying to change the handwriting?
I only wish CNN could have been there with their cameras running- I for one would like to know EXACTLY who to tell my son to steer clear of-Know what I mean?

I think I would have made the same argument as a teenage boy...hell, I probably did in some parallel universe!!!;)
i never went to the prom.
i wonder if my son will in his junior or senior year.
John- LOL :) And in some parallel universe I am sure I was your date-
;)
Foam-
I went to at least 4 Proms, maybe 5? (I was invited to other schools). I'll have to see if I can find photos...but I clearly recall wearing gowns that had either a lace collar that buttoned at the neck, or had a shawl- in any case- I was fully covered, and still looked very nice.
I never went in a limo, or partied with someone who rented a hotel. My parents would have freaked! Even on Prom night I had to be home between 11:30 and 12.
Quite a few kids didn't come home until 6 or 7 the next morning.
:0
Well I think there is nothing wrong with seeing a little boobs but I think they have to be real ones, no fake stuff for the prom. I mean we have to draw a line somewhere. :) I am with you on this guys attitude/ It will be different when it is his daughter.
Our prom was cancled due to racial riots. Our school couldn't agree weather to get a black or white band so they just cancled the prom. So my girlfriend and I just went and parked on the beach and necked as we called it back then.
So do we get to see pictures???
Greg
good blog,
but going with greg
on this one, mayden...
more illustrations, please
/t.
Greg- and /t- I just posted them- or one of them at least :)
Took me a while to find that one!
I know it's hard to see- but I stuck out my tongue in that photo- maybe if I scan it- it will come out clearer?
So well said. Many girls at my prom were wearing tiny clothes. I on the other hand got called granny the entire night..
My dress was one I picked up at a second hand place and sewed some lace and stuff on it to make it pretty...
Cheers for the teachers who gave a damn about the students!
hehehehehe I agree with you (oh and you were cheeky even then! lol) I posted a photo once of me at my Sr prom.... idk when... I hated my dress. My Mom made me get it. I could have worn a low cut number and no one would have bat and eye... I had no boobs then. They didnt come until I was 25! Ik weird but true!
Happy Wed!
Geez, who was your date? The Great Gatsby?
Just teasin' ;-)
I knew my prom would be special. How could it not? What, with the theme being "Hookers On Parade" and all.
Can't wait 'til next year when I'm a senior, and the rumored theme is "Will Do Anything For Crack" ...
Hey, a dude drops that much cash on Prom he should expect to get something for his money!!
Just kidding!!!
For what it's worth to you:

oh' you won't believe this...but I wore a gown similar to that in my graduation party..only it was in cream...
I went to two proms wearing something in fashion but not revealing..had a whole lot of fun I remember...
I also managed about three proms in school..I had a meeting with the parents and made clear what the point of the prom was....I even inspected gowns and explained what was acceptable and what was too revealing should be adjusted...some of the girls whose gowns seemed a bit plunging in front bought matching scarves that looked chic on them when draped....
I did this because being a teacher and a mom I wanted the teenagers to have the most of fun while at the same time learning the rudiments of eating in a formal setting and treating each other with respect...even the music was carefully chosen..no lewd or provocative lyrics was allowed...
I am so proud of this achievement of mine...the kids had fun...nobody got pregnant...and the parents came to pick up the kids afterwards..everyone had fun posing for pictures..I even took those of whom were boyfriend girlfriend telling them to make sure they both keep a copy so they can look back at it after 20years...
OH LORDY...this post is really so funny, but at my house, we're having a 9-11 prom emergency.
My sweet son, that has wisdom beyond his years, had his high school sweetheart since freshman year (both star athletes, and nominated for prom king & queen) dump him just three weeks before graduation. He actually wanted to marry her.
UGGGGHHHHH! The tears and sadness around here lately. THANKS SO MUCH for bringing the bits of humor I remember from prom. I'm 44, he's 17...try as I might, I cannot make him understand that sometimes the soccer MVP does dump the football captain. It really sucks to be the Mom all ready to rent the tux for him, and now just trying to talk him into going at all...
Hope I didn't rain on your prom story parade...I just needed your prom shoulder to cry on :)
I remember dancing at my prom to "Hey Jude"...shows how old I am :)
Oh, please. I'm with you. If the parents are OK with it, let them wear it.
I thought the proms I went to were mostly a big to-do about nothing. And no, not because I didn't get lucky :P
I think, for guys anyway, the prom itself is more of a "this is what your wedding will be like" :)
I really have no opinion on matters of fashion. I don't think ill of anyone because of what they choose to wear, or not. It just doesn't matter to me.
