In your honor, Dr. King~

Did you know???

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.

Mayden -
This morning when I woke up I checked my email and my bro had mailed me something that touched me so deeply and then came here and was touched once again.

I am so glad to know someone like you that has the same heart that Dr. King had.

Ever notice that men and women with the most to give are taken sooner than others?

Thank you, Cora, for this post today. It always saddens me that I have off today. I think my students should be in school and doing an entire day's worth of a special program dedicated to his dream. I teach his speech each year. It never ceases to send a chill down my spine.

to sevens point: the idea being you get taken out at the optimum moment. those of us who live a long life...well "they" are trying to give us as much time as possible to straighten up!!

Baron-
It is a true pleasure to know you- thank you :)

/t- thank you friend- I did some reading about him and the Nobel peace prize too- Think my brain got a few new wrinkles today :)

7even~ Yes- though I've seen some good ones get to be a ripe old age...Ruth Graham is one- the wife of Billy- there's a saint if ever there was one :)

Amy-
I would love to sit in your classroom one day- it would be an honor. Many of his quotes and speeches are powerful...K9 did a brilliant job with the one he listed :) Thanks for being here :)

K9- You don't know what a person is made of until you see them handle a crisis...dad always said that.
Being the father of 4 girls- he put quite a few young men to the test...if they could help out in a difficult situation and bear it with grace- and a smile...he got dads approval.
Not too many passed~
And I hold myself to that standard to this day- and my kids too.
When trouble comes- put your game face on and work it out :)

Aunty- Nice to see you :)
Jack is beaten to a pulp- then offered up as a sacrifice...he bit some guy in the neck and killed him and got away.
He figures out that they've been following the wrong terrorist- kind of makes friends with the guy he thought was the enemy- kills his best friend over this person (that was AWFUL!)- then tosses his cookies...just in time to quit for 5 minutes- then a nuke goes off!
Jack gets back on the job.

He is in bad shape- physically and emotionally. He'll need a brain shock (like they did on House last week!) to forget all the awful stuff that happened to him.

I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing...it was good :)

I have four more years to beat that record and I will give you the $123 if you help me :)

Jokes apart...A great tribute to a great person.

A bit of MLK trivia: a great man, he NEVER got to drive on a road named after him, or relax and watch televised bowling on a holiday named after him. Sad, really. I hope this does not turn out to be the case in my case. Happy Pug Day!

In Wisconsin, a 6-year tradition was halted this year right in the middle of it. Apparently, the local school system had sponsored since 2001 a round robin High School basketball tournament to raise money for underpriviledged inner-city youth. In 2007, the "Doctor MLK Stop the Youth Violence" tournament was cancelled because - NOW READ CAREFULLY - for the 4th consecutive year, there were both on and off courts acts of violence occurring, including 3 stabbings, one shooting, and numerous gang and group related fights.

I'm sure Dr. King would be pleased.
